Full of horse-play and mischief, this rowdy gang came to investigate my filming in their peaceful valley. Wanting to capture their high-spirited antics on film, I grabbed my Polaroid to shoot. But before I could focus, they transformed into statues of tender poise and composure—and did so three times in a row. Although I never got the shot I desired, I’ve grown fond of this image...for in these young faces you can see the genetic history of Korea’s turbulent past with the Mongols, Chinese, and Japanese.
