POW-2.jpg
Document Title:
Prisoner of War: Vietnam
Description:
Philip A. Manhard was America’s longest held prisoner of war during the Vietnam era. He was a CIA operative captured in the region prior to US involvement in the Vietnam conflict. This image was taken moments after setting foot on American soil for the first time—after nine years of solitary confinement. The shot was captured while documenting the release of our POWs from Hanoi for the Pentagon and White House.
